I think on the contrary that likely within two years the retarded analysts in New York (none of whom have ever worked in the industry) will wake up and realise that only the Permian Basin in the U.S is making money at these prices the rest of the industry is in decline. They suffer from serious groupthink and a short term outlook when this industry needs 20+ year investment decisions.
It's not just me saying this but it's only on the fringes and in the massive accumulated losses on balance sheets of tight oil producers like pioneer natural resources in the U.S.

Demand for oil on the other hand continues to grow with world GDP.
I am very much a greenie but I don't see this industry shutting down and what they are doing now is fracking insane and will cost big bucks long term letting all these people go.
Not that they have a choice but these boom bust cycles are very frustrating to investors like me being as avoidable as they clearly are.
