I was at a presentation today on solar power stations by an engineer from Aurecon. One thing he mentioned was that Solar power stations above about 10 MW have essentially the same relative cost (i.e. a 100 MW solar power station will cost about 10 times a 10 MW power station).
So it actually makes more sense (for the grid) to distribute 10 x 10 MW power stations close to where the power is needed rather than a centralised 100 MW power station, since this will lessen the power required to be transmitted over the high-voltage transmission network. This is exactly what CCE is doing at Northam
