The lounge WATEC Israel 2015 Tel Aviv (from 13 to 15 October) will close its doors tonight. This exhibition of water technologies and renewable energy has been an outstanding success.
African and Asian delegations have traveled this very important show. As usual the French were there. Most of those we met were very satisfied with this edition of Watec. Missions of France have canceled their last minute visit to Israel for "security reasons".
A KNOWLEDGE. Silicon Wadi "Water is a scarce and precious commodity for the planet, we are aware of the scale of a country such as Israel, the situation becomes even more acute, both in terms. geostrategic and logistical intended to cover the domestic, agricultural and industrial needs.
Israel is a tiny country surrounded by neighbors who are essentially hostile to him. How then pursue a coherent water policy, efficient and sustainable? Should we fear a war of water regionally or otherwise, can we consider the issue of water as a vector of peace? The hope is immense as is the challenge.
The hydro-diplomacy has become a prime topic for Near Eastern area at the heart of debate and controversy. The arid nature of the climate of the region and continuing population pressure associated with increased industrialization and overexploitation of water resources needed to more or less long term, cooperation between Israel and the countries avoisinants.Les fears attached to this coveted treasure all center around the risks related to national sovereignty, security and the economic aspects inherent in the management and treatment of water resources ... Without forgetting of course the climate of mistrust that decades of conflict have permanently imprinted in the minds of governments and populations on both sides.
But we have good reason to be optimistic for the future. After some previous, more or less ambitious and more or less successful (the idea of a "Jordan Valley Authority" launched in 1936, the Johnston Plan of 1954, the signing in 1989 of an agreement between Turkey and Israel The Israel-Jordan peace treaty in 1994, ...), all hopes are now turning to a major project, political-ecological-minded, namely the construction of a canal linking the Red Sea and the Dead Sea and for half to stabilize the level of the latter. The other half of the water collected will be jointly managed by Israel, the Palestinian Authority and Jordan to be discharged within a seawater desalination basin and consequently restated to alleviate the water deficit sweet of the region.
Furthermore, in this context aggravating "water stress", Israel is internationally recognized as being at the forefront of water research. The Israeli expertise is well established and could benefit all of its neighbors. While the subject is sensitive, but it is, above all, crucial to the survival of the respective populations of the region.
The Israeli water miracle predates the creation of the State of Israel even if it is particularly developed from 1948. Since then, he has consolidated so that today, Israel is a leader global rush of water ... His efforts are realized in different aspects, starting with the economy of water resources. Indeed, we must ensure above all not to waste before thinking about increasing the available volume of water (prevention of leaks and other anomalies in the distribution network with companies such as Takadu, storage optimization of the precious liquid, tariff incentives for the population, efficient advanced agricultural techniques in water, especially with the system of drip irrigation, created in the 1950s by the Netafim company).
Hydraulic windfall of additional resources also stems from the systematic recycling of wastewater. Indeed, Israel's retreat wastewater and diverts the benefit of agriculture, highly consumptive water. The Israeli wastewater recycling rate is around 80%, putting the country in first place on the international stage, far ahead of number two: Spain, where the rate is capped at 12%. Many Israeli companies have thus specialized successfully in the fields of filtration and purification of water, including Aqwise, Amiad or Emefcy.
Alongside the recycling, several measures can fight against pollution of water and the various sources of contamination of the latter, whether accidental, or terrorist-related natural disasters. Companies such as Whitewater Security developed for this purpose remarkable processes of securing hydraulic systems.
The other aspect on which Israel is involved is that of desalination of sea water. Israel now has four plants for bridging the domestic water shortage. Companies such Desalitech or IDE Technologies play a crucial role in the matter and make Israel a world leader in reverse osmosis desalination SWRO (Sea Water Reverse Osmosis). In the short term, desalination should provide about 85% of potable water consumption in Israel.
The last major component for which Israel excels that of its concerns on these vital subjects research for the country. Innovation is the engine of Israel in general and the country is a point of special honor to extend the benefit of environmental progress: increased cooperation between universities and businesses, specialized training of professionals, exporting its good practices to developing countries, many international collaborations ....
Specifically about the least developed countries in terms of treatment and management of water, the contribution of Israel is certainly a drop in the sea but it is exemplary, very effective and recognized. Moreover, the United Nations has proclaimed 2013 "International Year of Water Cooperation." Thereby conclude a glimmer of hope by asking the question: What if the water shortage had to turn the game in thirst for peace and international cooperation "?
