well your a funny lot part of the aristocracy , the USA have enormous protection built in for their farmers we have none, ALDI for eg, have built there brand pretty dramatically on our dollar, but that will soon shrink as for the Auto industry being something of a car lover having owned 60 in the past 44 years it is not viable largely due to the exchange rates, no so called Australian car has been 100% produced in Australia .
unions are about negotiation and more often than not correcting poor management they have also contributed enormously to efficiency there are in reality very few Australian products farmers use, no they use imported machinery for everything, unions did not destroy that no lower manufacturing costs, Australia is dependant on trucks to move everything nothing is made here absolutely not one truck.
Unions did not destroy that no a floating currency, the removal of tariff protection introduced by governments to protect capitalist--- Woolworths however is an Australian company and should our dollar drop they will source more Australian product , that is already happening and Aldi are likely to lose the important supply edge a global retailer has in exchange rates --that is the leveller.
one of the great advantages of democracy is the right of the individual, to a large degree that right has been removed by labour laws , if the right to strike were available to workers it would force more honesty into our capitalist system and considerably more open honest negotiation, yes I was a union member for 30 years an elected member of the state body, delegate as well
