If you troll back a few years (around 5 years) when Amazon and Kogan were first tipped to kill HVN you'll find some posts (from me) that pretty much sum up Merrill Lynch's "alternative perspective".
Funnily enough it's also what Gerry himself has been saying for several years LOL.(that's where I got my info from)
It's funny how everyone ignores him in favor of analysts who get paid bugger all to write crap to get people to buy and sell more shares.
Just imagine explaining that to someone in a conversation, "no sorry the self made Billionaire is wrong but that dude getting paid a few bucks to write crap is totally on point"
I must thank them though as they provide such magnificent buying opportunities

Ps: if Amazon take out someone like MTS I'll start to sweat but I don't think there is enough of a retail market in Australia for them to even make an effort, they have much better suited markets elsewhere they need to win first IMO.

Pps: I'm tipping another rise in earnings from HVN with a share buyback (using some franking credits) being more likely than more dividends.
Rising property, rising sales, lowering debt, lower interest rates on debt, rising milk prices (dairy interests), comeback in mining (FIFO accommodation interest) all point to shorters being well and truly on the wrong side of this one
