I have been intrigued for some time about the use of the editorial heading in the American Thoracic Society titled "Diagnosing Latent Tuberculosis Infection -Turning Glitter to Gold", written by Professor Peter Barnes of the University of Texas.
It seems to me that the extremely slow mkt uptake of qftb (lead by difficult and complex guidelines from the cdc) meant that this product was just like glitter, where as the breathtakingly accurate qftb gold has so impressed the like's of this US tb expert to rightly conclude that this glitter will now turn into gold. Any other interpretations of the Professors thinking are welcome, especially in light of his compelling comment....."If approved, I would favour its widespread use for diagnosis of latent tuberculosis infection".
