Tomingley Gold Operations

The Tomingley Gold mining operation is owned and operated by Alkane Resources Ltd, and is based on four gold deposits outside of Dubbo. The mine, which employs 180 staff and contractors, is bisected by the Newell Highway and has significant logistical challenges that are heightened during periods of heavy rainfall.

Heavy and prolonged rainfall at the site in 2016 presented a significant risk to production. To meet this challenge, Tomingley introduced a series of productivity improvements, including working with equipment fleet provider Emeco to significantly improve fleet availability, utilisation and efficiency during uncertain windows of operation. In addition, production was optimised to focus on extracting high-grade ore.

These and other productivity improvements allowed Tomingley to recover from a potential 36% production deficit during the second half of 2016 and achieve its original production and cost targets for the 2017 financial year.
