The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land and Water (DMLW) has documented that soil temperatures and snow cover within the Eastern Coastal Area have met the criteria for opening (6 inches of snow and colder than -5 °C soil temperature at 30 cm depth).
The tundra is open to all vehicles in the Eastern Coastal Area for the 2018-2019 winter season effective at 2200 hours, Monday, December 17, 2018.
This opening applies only to those operators who have valid off-road vehicle travel permits to operate on state-owned lands on the North Slope.
