I'm not so sure about that. After all the land remains under SoA ownership. It is only held on short-term leasehold by O&G explorers, developers or producers. And the huge inflow of dollars from China to USA to develop and produce the hydrocarbons....let alone to export it for use in China (if that is their aim) would do wonders for the trade imbalance that irks trump so much. It is after all an American export to China....with American jobs.

Two snippets of information: firstly Sinopec has been invited by the Alaskan governor and some of the North Slope majors to participate in a planning workshop for a mooted gas pipeline (courtesy of moda on LSE boards: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/market-insights/latest-news/natural-gas/032619-alaska-lng-re-engages-buyers-north-slope-producers-teams-to-meet ).

Secondly, I noted the following logo on an 88E investor presentation in March 2015, arguing the merits of the Alaskan venture. While this has been long dropped from our logo, it does indicate some early days BoD intent. Who knows whether back channels were established and have remained open.
