Of course something that was initially never intended to be a finished speaker would need further refinement to attain the correct response to sound input and the desired output quality and across the entire frequency spectrum (including the low frequencies), so it appears you've misunderstood what was written. The reason for them highlighting the low frequency performance (i.e. volume) was in the context of and comparison to the performance of the other version. You also haven't explained what it is about the design of the simplified structure that makes you think it is for "for lower-cost, less quality-demanding applications"? I'm trying to understand why you think this in the context of how the speaker works, not simply restating what has already been announced. Are you confused by the term "simplified structure" and somehow associated it with lower grade sound reproduction?

It's all just my interpretation really. Other interpretations offered are perfectly reasonable. I'm basically guessing at the reasoning for continuing to develop two in parallel, bearing in mind the specific wording used. I'm perfectly open to being absolutely wrong in my interpretation.
