My understanding was that the camera doesn't detect sharks but the unit can be activated remotely once a sighting through another means occurs. It simply sounds an alarm to close the beach before a ranger attends beaches that are not patrolled.
What makes you both think it does the detecting itself. I thought the announcement was pretty clear on that.
