firstly, why would those short cover fast ? There has been no indication that todays price movements are a bottom. The candle left is fairly bearish and 10.54 doesn't seem to have much technical significant that i can see. !0.50 is a nice round number but thats about all.
Secondly nothing is gaurenteed in the stockmarket. Particularly dividends and fickle investors. If the DOW continues to boom investors wil move out of utilities like AGL and into growth stocks like NCP, tech stocks etc.
In the long term i think that AGL is a good company but short term anything is possible and a fall to 9.80 isn't out of the question. Buying a company that lost $700 million last year might unnerve investors in a climate like ours.
