I don't know. Maybe it's just different in the US.
Putting Jaynes sale aside as I still believe that was a one time board mistake, share buybacks are only a concern in a weak market or weak stock price.
For example, let's look at Fang stocks
Zuckerberg at FB sold 2.84 billion worth of stock last year to fund Philanthropy
During the first half of 2018, senior executives of Fb, Amazon, Netflix, google sold 4.58 billion( non founders)
I won't bore you with a ton more details, when you receive options, or stock for basically nothing, or .50c, and your stock is at 10, or 14, selling what amounts for a few million to fund a lifestyle, pay taxes, buy bigger homes, etc is normal, prudent, and averages profits. What's the point of having all those 60c options if you can't use them.
Maybe the afr should mention the ages of those selling. Kids going to college, new expensive Tesla, whatever
Maybe an employee that was let go and made a huge profit didn't want to own those share anymore, take a few million, and enjoy himself, maybe his wife was sick ,who knows
Anyway, selling into strength makes perfect sense for all of us, employees of companies are no different.
Selling into weakness is a different story sometimes and it could reflect sentiment within a company.
And lastly, less than 1%of all of our shares are insiders. The small amount of shares sold the other day I think more reflects the bullishness of the insiders,or....they would have sold a hell of a lot more.
I forget who it was a while back on here who was agonising over selling shares to buy a new house.Do u remember who that was?
Most people we're very supportive in him buying a house because he like most of us had made a fortune in the stock.( We have our own money in the stock) Insiders were given the shares so it's all profit.
I bet he still has a ton of stock, a big tax bill for what he sold, and a beautiful new house. At least where I come from, I'd consider that positive and a great success story.
