cotton is a desert plant strangely enough in a season where there is large summer rainfall during the growing season cotton growers are forced to spray chemicals that stunt the plant producing a modest low maintenance bush with lots of cotton bolls rather than 10 foot high trees with small yield which is what happens in those wet yrs.Remember cotton is a tree & is killed off every year prior to picking .
