Basically I agree with your OP mogga although the kids have inherited the world that was passed on to them.
Your point about their actions being influenced by others is spot on. I wonder did anybody follow the imbedded link in the ABC report of the protest. That led directly to a page for kids to sign up, donate funds etc that was obviously set up by some activist group.
