I am a 5th generation Anglo from Sydney. Huge Sydney FC fan but hats off to the roar for the win.
Football is very big part of Sydney, Central coast, Newcastle and the gong culture, and STRONGLY supported by traditional Aussie Anglo people like myself. AFL is usually seem as the foreign unwecome Sport, something people in other states may not understand. Simply don't get AFL personally.
Despite a strong eurosnob mentality, local football is strong.
Personally loathe the EPL. Simply cannot understand why an Aussie would rather support some team from a far flung land than their own a-league team. As I mentioned in another thread, ive been to dozens if not a few hundred big and small matches all around the world and the Sydney Derby atmosphere is better than nearly all of them; certainly better than the EPL bore-a-thon cricket-esque tourist driven atmosphere these days.
