My next door neighbour set up an off-grid system about 4yrs ago (farm+shed-type scenario) with solar/battery/generator and it was quite cheap for him to do, even then (certainly cheaper than running power lines to his home site). Way, way under 100k. We're thinking of doing the same in the next 12 months as we regularly lose power (maybe half dozen times a year, usually at really painful times!). I read somewhere (on CCE I thought, maybe somewhere else) to be on the lookout for a gov't subsidy scheme for storage around March this year, we're waiting to see what that brings (if anything) before we talk more seriously about it.
We lost power at 10pm on Christmas Eve last December and it came back on at 6pm on the evening of the 25th. Fridges and freezers (+beer fridges) packed with goodies and no power to cook it or cool it with. Made a mess of the trifles
