Depending on how far a stock has run up prior to an announcement often determines how much pressure it comes under after the event.

True - but look at SIR. I got a call from my broker the day it went from .06 to .32 on news with a buy - this is big. No way did I buy as the SP looked way overbought. Well there you go - $5 it went to. And there were a lot of trader exits on the way up and liquidity events. So yes, the point that traders and investors and instos buy and sell, sure they do. It doesn't really mean that much if the underlying value drives it harder.
