Yeah his product will probably be the precursor to the reign of Super Capacitors.

Elon Musk Says Super-Capacitors Not Batteries, Will Be Breakthrough For EVs

When Tesla’s Elon Musk first came to Silicon Valley he was researching advanced, highly-energy-dense super-capacitors at Stanford. Coincidentally, when speaking at the Cleantech Forum in San Francisco about the future of electric vehicles Musk said, “If I were to make a prediction, I’d think there’s a good chance that it is not batteries, but super-capacitors.”
Super-capacitors are similar to batteries in that they both store energy. But in electric vehicles, super-capacitors would be much more efficient at storing the massive amounts of energy taken in during regenerative braking. And when the time comes to accelerate, the super-caps would be able to deliver the that large amount of energy much faster than batteries, with less energy loss.

Luckily I have exposure to the extremely disruptive SuperCacpacitor technology, via Ionic Industries directly and SER which will own 20 percent of Ionic Industries.

" Majumder and colleagues have been working on a unique focused ion beam super cap technology for five years, with funding provided by SER and the Australian Research Council.
It offers the (eventual) promise of various applications, not the least of which would include super-fast battery recharge and extended ranges for electric vehicles — the two things keeping the lid on electric cars at present.
On that score, it is well known that Tesla is building its giga-factory for lithium-ion battery packs. But there has also been lots of chatter about it looking to super caps employing graphene to get to the 800km range and quick recharge that would so disrupt Detroit and OPEC that it is not funny.
Here is a “wow’’ statement from Muzzin on where the SER/Monash work is at: “Our super cap technology is smaller, better and faster than any other published technology. The technology has energy density 1000 times greater and 50 times higher capacitance over our competitors, and has essentially unlimited cycle life.”
And here is another: “We are developing planar super capacitors with massive energy and power density which could surpass the delivery power of lithium ion batteries.”
