With the trouble wdc is in, they seriously need a step change. Not just an improvement on current NAND flash memory and anything else they use in their HDD's currently.
They need something that is so lucrative and economical.
Something fast and reliable, which is what their customers want and demand. And something cheaper to run.
Enter 4DS.
Cheaper to run due to less power consumption.
Wdc (or any cloud/ memory provider who buys 4DS) can pass those savings to customers, thus undercutting the market and increasing market share in due course. Cloud domination ensues.
Revenues come hand over fist.
Therein lies your business case for large takeover price tag.
