UAE Opens Kidahwe-Uvinza Road In Tanzania To Boost Trade TOPICS:RoadsUAE OCTOBER 2, 2015 The United Arab Emirates’ Emirates News Agency (WAM), has recently announced that the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has opened in September 2015 the Kidahwe – Uvinza road project in western Tanzania. The road totals 51 km between both cities and was totally funded by an AED 170 million (USD 46.12 million) concessionary loan awarded by ADFD. The project aims at connecting all the cities between Kidahwe and Uvinza, located in Tanzania’s western region of Kigoma. According to WAM, the road is part of a nationwide project called Central Corridor Trade Route which consists in a 604 km highway that will connect Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s commercial capital with Burundi and Rwanda, Tanzania’s northwestern bordering countries to facilitate the transport of people and merchandise and boost Tanzania’s overall economic activity. ADFD Acting Director General, Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, explained that the Kidahwe-Uvinza road is in line with Abu Dhabi’s directives on assisting developing countries with the necessary funding to undertake vital projects in order to contribute to their economic growth. According to Al Suwaidi, ADFD manages UAE Government grants and concessionary loans totaling AED 233 million (USD 64 million) in Tanzania, spread in four projects in the sugar, water and transport industry. Tanzania accounts for more than 9.0% of the funds addressed from ADFD to African countries and represents 6.5% of the total on-going and developed projects in the continent, according to ADFD’s last annual report.
