Previously I thought it was a long way off. But, looking at the specs of the Rivian and the Atlis as a couple of examples, they are very close to what I'd buy. They are talking about $45-$60k US and up which puts them roughly in the right price range.
What I like about these vehicles is all the other things that come with them. The architecture because they are on a skateboard platform makes them much more flexible and practical as they don't have to worry about engine space, trans tunnels etc.
Then there's the superior features of electric drive as well.
