I reckon there is a fair bit of tall poppy syndrome with Musk. Especially on HC. I wonder what's happen to Birdman ? He posted every time there was a financial story ( usually negative ) about Tesla.
That said, I agree with your point about Tesla going bust and the ev market continuing regardless. Tesla could quite easily go broke. They are playing a game of large investment up front hoping for the return later on. One little wrinkle in that plan and it could be all over.
But, even if Tesla falls over, the ev industry is already so far ahead because of what Tesla proved that it now has it's own momentum. As has been posted previously, there is a tidal wave of new evs coming over the next five years. With that is infrastructure upgrades to solve range issues. And, that is all with the current battery technology.
Add in some range improvement of 50 to 100% through the huge amount of research into batteries and it is definitely game over for ice vehicles. Domestic ones for sure.
Previously I had been mulling over how long it would be before I bought an ev. I have pretty always run two cars. A ute which I drive most of the time because of it's practical nature and something else for when you don't want or need to be in a ute .
At this time there is no ev that suits my needs specifically however after watching the Rivian video, I realise the day that there is something for me is not far away. While it won't be a Rivian for me ( slightly too big I think and the wrong configuration ) , there will be several other choices in the market very soon. Tesla has their ute coming and so does Atlis and others. Considering that the major manufacturers have suv ev platforms out there already, it won't be long before I'll have plenty of choice. I would say 5 years tops.
So, I have pretty decided that my current vehicles will probably be my last ice vehicles. They are late models with low ks. I could update them now for a newer model that has different headlights ( and that's about it ) or I could wait for the ev version in about 3 to 5 years time.
I am really looking forward to how capable and flexible my next vehicle will be.
