width here means the total "depth" of the ore body.. for eg. if the ann says:

5 metres @ 11.07 g/t gold from 130 metres (from another company ann) means WIDTH of 5m of ore that has 11.07 g/t of gold and that starts from 130m from the surface...

we want BIGGER width, higher % of ore and from shallow depth (from surface)... this makes it more economical to mine... in case of Ni there are many other factors to consider but this is the gist of understanding any ann...
