The solicitors instructed by RNI have acted for Galaxy (MF) and also Windward (Bronwyn Barnes, associated with MF) in respect of M&A, so I would not expect RNI to instruct them if MF was attempting a serious corporate move.
I'd say that he is in RNI to make a substantial profit as a decent-sized shareholder. He is not alone there. There are other large to largish shareholders, including Rob Martin (biggest holder and a D too) and a combo of MLX and WGX with associates. In fact there are 4 listed exploration/mining companies that have top 30 holdings.
