Whilst grid storage is expensive that is a reflection only of the distorted market in Australia. The large users are paying in the teens per Kwh and the retail users in the thirties certainly I have done the numbers and in fact it would be very economical for me to go off grid in 2 years in SA. The Redflow ( RFX) battery system if it works and you have the space is a really good option if the price dropped 20% I would do it today.
That is what I see as risk for ERM. The price distortion is an incentive for retail customers to reduce usage but in fact unless the larger users pay more than the model does not work. The more you increase charges to retail customers the more will put in batteries and solar ...
I think its going to be a bumpy ride if my experience in June in SA is anything to go by.
I still believe in these guys but there are interesting things happening...
