Something on topic of trade styles to maybe ponder...from the very sage and venerable @Freehold.

"This may not we what you want to hear .. but personally I could not think of anything worse than having a holding in a company(s) for the "long term" ...otherwise known as set and forget. This is not what the financial planners will tell you. They will say diversify , invest in blue chips, performance commensurate with the market index is good. A recipe for avg returns at best and catastrophic failure at worst (ie, GFC). A competent short term trader will be able to make 20 -100% gains year in year out on total capital... a super star STT'er will be making 100%+ on their total starting capital (ie, those for an appetite for increased risk) each year. But that said .. novices could lose all their capital in a few months or even a single trade .... Its not for every one. Mental and trading discipline is the key. Those that seem to fail the most are those that can't accept that they have made a wrong decision. Realise you made a bad call early and exit with little loss (Cut losers early and let winners run)."
