Samples can be tampered (salted) with at many different points along the process before you get to the gold buttons.
Assuming the company itself is transparent (no reason to think otherwise), then it is much hard to fake microscopic gold within the host rock (assuming a secure process is in place on the rock sample/thinsection creation, and chemistry confirmed by microprobe).
