    Massive point you've raised!

No existing phones released in Australia are compatible with 5g.

These phones however will be launched very soon - Samsung will have their S10 launching by July 2019 with Telstra for example. The big problem is that 5g to start off with, will be exclusive to flagship devices priced over that $1000 mark in oz. Will be a few more years when midrange devices adopt 5g, and those first generation 5g phones come down in price, so the market will be very specific.

4g/LTE adoption took quite a while to become the norm (and not a selling point of a device) - given that battery and heating issues were common in those first generation 4g devices. So can't comment on whether this will be apparent in 5g devices given how far we've come in technology, but probably can't discount the possibility.
