    Job description
    Who We Are…
Nearmap is a global leader in the provisioning of geospatial map content and applications for business, enterprises and government customers. We have a history of working successfully with small and large organizations across a broad range of sectors and industries such as landscapers, solar, insurance, roofing, building & construction, engineering firms, architectural and utility companies.
Nearmap captures, manages and delivers the most current location content in the world, allowing businesses and governments to explore their environment easily. With Nearmap, organizations unlock opportunities that consistently inform decision making and transform the way they work. Our high-resolution, frequently updated aerial imagery is 2.8-inch GSD, better than satellite imagery. Delivered within days of capture, Nearmap shows changes over time. Users save time and money, reduce site visits and efficiently plan with current, clear imagery. Nearmap is delivered through a refreshingly easy-to-use interface called MapBrowser or accessed via Esri® and Autodesk products.
Built around world leading innovation, Nearmap has developed a complete technology solution that enables it to quickly capture and process aerial imagery and serve that data online with unprecedented currency, clarity and availability via subscriptions over the Internet.
    What You'll Be Doing …
You will be working as part of both the US Survey Operations team and a Global Service virtual team to ensure our US fleet of capture systems is installed, serviced, upgraded, and any systems or field issues that arise are prioritised, analysed and resolved to keep our capture program working at maximum efficiency at all times.
You will be a fast and eager technical learner, ready to grow into a technical expert on the ground in the US backed by Global Service engineering support in Australia. You will perform a variety of regular service tasks across our fleet with an eye for any issues or improvements, always able to switch into more detailed technical analysis as required. You will appreciate how key good documentation and service records are and be ready to contribute as required to keep them accurate and up to date, but also know when you need to use your learned expertise and natural technical and analysis skills to go beyond what's available to troubleshoot a challenging issue at hand. You will also be responsible for tracking inventory and making sure Nearmap's asset management systems are kept up to date.
You are invaluable during new system rollouts, carefully documenting your observations and suggestions during the testing phases to assist our global engineering team. You will be familiar with test tools such as multimeters and a simple oscilloscope, understand basic IP networking and be familiar with tracing a mixed-cabled network environment for issues.
A typical day could have a mix of some of below:
    • Meeting with the Global Service Manager and virtual service team to discuss schedules, upcoming events, any issues in play and improvements.
    • Performing post-replacement setup and testing
    • Frequently traveling to the field to service or install a capture system
    • Coordinating service of special system components with third parties
    • Monitoring aspects of performance, troubleshooting parts and equipment
    • Collaborating with internal and external resources for troubleshooting and equipment servicing purposes
    • Being on top of inventory - keeping asset management systems updated, ensuring appropriate levels of spare parts and equipment are available and shortages are communicated
    • Keeping service records up to date
    • Reviewing processes and documentation, suggesting improvements and additions
    • Helping manage domestic and international receiving and shipments of equipment
    • Helping with broader Survey Ops work during busy times, assisting with processing and performing QA on our data and imagery, and other duties as assigned
    You Have:
    • A Degree in Engineering (electronics, mechanical, mechatronics), with at least 2 years experience working in an engineering role in a production environment and keep up to date with engineering innovations/improvements
    • You are a self-motivated, outcome-driven individual with a proactive and pragmatic approach and keep up to date with engineering innovations/improvements
    • Mechanical/electronic expertise setting up and testing systems both in the field and in house, preferably with familiarity with board-level electronics testing and calibration including use of multimeters, power supplies, soldering iron and oscilloscope
    • You have strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities in computing and hardware, familiar with diagnosing network connectivity issues involving different types of physical cables issues, wired and wireless network
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, you have the ability to relay complex information in layman's terms
    • You are looking for an environment that is still growing, where your ideas and contribution are valued and encouraged
    • Comfortable managing priorities in a fast-moving operations environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team, preferably with demonstrated ability to meet high-availability service commitments
    • Detail-oriented and able to ensure that documentation is accurate, clear and concise
    • Our capture systems are distributed across the US. This role requires frequent travel (50-70%) for service or issue management, so an enjoyment of being out in the field is a must. This work can include lifting up to 50 pounds, moving about in confined spaces and performing work outdoors.
