    It's not "0.99999" It's "0.99999, repeating to infinity".

    The presence of infinity completely changes the situation. I'm not going to bother repeating myself- I've already posted a few proofs in that link so if you wish to educate myself, please- do yourself a favour. But I can tell you as someone who's done this at university level, 0.9999 repeating is equal to 1.
