Well said Manny, anyone using brokers forecasts in future valuations is only setting themselves for disappointment and it defies belief that 'experts,' brokers, analysts and fund managers can harp on about future intrinsic values (based on analyst forecasts) and still be taken seriously.
Timme, you say "analyst's forecasts are notoriously optimistic and almost always wrong. But if you don't use them as a basis for investing then what do you use?"
Well how about your own knowledge of the company, the industry its involved in and your opinion on its growth prospects? If you believe a company has good growth prospects then surely this is enough! If you don't believe a company has good growth prospects then this should also suffice. Who really needs to be told by exactly how much and when a company will grow when these forecasts are not worth the paper they're written on. Using these forecasts in valuation formulas is so often the case of garbage in, garbage out.
New magic formulas promising stock market success and riches may be a good marketing ploy to sell programs and newsletters although buyer beware.
