AUSTRALIAN wheat caught up for more than six weeks in a stand-off between the AWB and Iraq, has been cleared of contamination by the Iraqis but questions remain over the saga. Australian Trade Minister Mark Vaile welcomed the announcement last week by Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al Jaafari that the 120,000 tonnes of Australian wheat were clean. Unloading of the first of the three ships stranded at the port of Umm Qasr started on Saturday and AWB expects all the grain to be discharged in the next few weeks. It will finalise a one million tonne contract signed last October.
