AGL Energy (ASX:AGK) has joined forces with Origin Energy Limited (ASX:ORG) to let the government know they want compliance costs slashed and an end to government control of retail power.
The energy companies told a review that was ordered by the Ministerial Council of Energy, that they want a national scheme that would include access to cheaper capital for energy efficiency projects, in light of forecast electricity prices next year with the introduction of the carbon tax.
Currently different states in Australia operate different schemes requiring energy and gas retailers to purchase and surrender energy efficiency certificates.
AGL says it’s frequently difficult for an energy efficiency project to gain financial support within an organisation.
AGL Energy (ASX:AGK) reported a net profit of $558.7 million for the first half of this year.
