Thanks very much, I found your explanation very helpful. Also looked at dgoransson's posts. I have seen this behavour in some of the other stocks I have invested in and until now had no idea what was going on. As I tend to be a longer term value investor it has not really impacted on me but I will look at it closer now.

I can see how it might cause havoc with short term traders using CFDs etc.

As it is deceptive and appears to serve no real good purpose other than enrich the big boys at other's expense I would like to think the boys at ASIC could look at ways of stamping it out (or at least slowing it down) along with other forms of high frequency automated trading
