super pit, page-4

As a geologist out, I've got some bad news.

It's not going to happen... an old(er) geologist who was at Wiluna in the Normandy days said that the only way a Wiluna superpit would happen would be to combine east and west pits together. As of today, West pit is full of waste rock, and east pit (and the ELN and ELS underground mines) have taken up the majority of the ounces on the East lode side.

Not to mention a 'broader wiluna' superpit as you've suggested would most likely take out the decline accesses, leaving the underground mines (ELN & Bulletin declines) stranded, leaving no chance for cash generation. It also goes without saying there may be heritage or indeed aboriginal heritage sites on the super pit site too.

So, the strip ratio would be massive, upfront cost would be massive, and there would be a long lead time to generate $$$
All in all, not a winning combination.

IMHO, I think a central shaft would be more worthwhile, able to hoist 1mpta to feed the mill. But I'd say that it would be an expensive exercise in itself (but cheaper than the superpit idea in my opinion).
