TPJ is pleased to announce that Newcrest PNG Exploration Limited, a subsidiary of Newcrest Mining Limited ("Newcrest"), the Company's partner in the Manus Island Joint Venture in Papua New Guinea ("PNG"), has entered a significant phase of the exploration programme by commencing a comprehensive helicopter-borne magnetic-radiometric geophysical survey over the entire project area.
The survey will cover the entire known mineralized corridor extending some 30km within the project area. It will target known porphyry copper-gold systems such as the Arie and Kren prospects, as well as the Kisi low sulphidation gold vein system. TPJ previously drilled three scout diamond drill holes at the Kisi prospect totaling 402 metres which intersected epithermal quartz veining with significant gold values ranging from 1.57m grading 8.08g/t to 5.6m at 4.98g/t.
Bill Howell, TPJ's Exploration Director, commented: "The heli-mag survey is an important and powerful exploration tool, which is now being used for the first time in the project area. The survey, together with surface geochemical sampling and mapping being carried out by Newcrest, will help prioritise and define potential drilling targets at the porphyry copper-gold alteration systems such as the Arie prospect, and help identify structural trends that may control the low-sulphidation gold vein systems such as at Kisi. It is also likely that additional targets will be recognised from the heli-mag data."
Fraser McGee, TPJ's CEO said:
"We are delighted that the heli-mag survey is now underway after being delayed by logistical and operating issues, and we believe it is likely that the data being generated will enable Newcrest to proceed to the next phase of target drilling during the course of the year." "
So hopefully by the end of the year we should have seen some drilling. I am not sure of the time frame of the helimag analysis but based on previous exploration plus additional targets possibly identified a better understanding of the potential Manus Island may hold for Pacrim.
