Whilst in recent years foreign miners/explorers have focused their attention on Sumatra and the eastern end of the archipelago around Sumbawa and Irian it is actually Java that has the most volcanoes both active and more importantly for explorers inactive.There are about 67 volcanoes on Java which run in a spine west to east across the centre of the island .Most of the copper gold mineralization lies to the south of this spine of volcanoes.The north coast of the island is more prospective for oil and gas.Java remains ,strangely enough one of the most underexplored areas of Indonesiain terms of gold and copper
