You're right MikS, RM does advocate using ending equity for the equity per share component.
I'm now just having a think about what this means for valuations of companies that are growing very quickly, like Matrix. It seems intuitive to me to use average equity for this component to reflect the return on investment, but I'll ponder it some more.
