International coal conference brings together specialists in Mozambique [ 2010-07-20 ]


Maputo, Mozambique, 20 July An international conference on coal is due to bring together, from Tuesday in Maputo, over 200 people including company representatives, specialists and other entities with interest in the world coal sector, Mozambican newspaper Notcias reported.

The conference is co-organised by the International Mining and Metal Series and Status Consultores de Comunicao and it is scheduled to discuss issues related to opportunities opening up in the coal sector, potential in Mozambique, as well as the various possible ways of distributing coal.

The paper cited coal sector specialists as saying that, in the not too distant future, Mozambique would be essential in the world coal market, taking into consideration its reserves and the investments that are being made.

Investments in the coal sector over the last few years in Mozambique have totalled billions of dollars, with those by Brazilian company vale being particularly worthy of note, as well as Australias Riversdale Mining, which both plan to start exporting coal next year.

Along with these two companies Indias Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) is also in Mozambique, as are Midwest Mozambique and Osho Gremach Mining,and Eurasia Natural Resources Corporation, of Kazakhstan. (macauhub)
