Th Lampedusa MPA surrounds all 3 of the islands that make up the MPA and cover more than just the sheer coastline. MPA is a boundary to protect marine life. I think its pretty damn clear what 12 miles from and MPA is. It is 12 miles from the boundary of the MPA.

Why would it be from the coastline, your not protecting anything like that. Elba is 100% no go. It is in a massive MPA quadrant to protect whales and other major sea mammals.

Petroceltic and other companies are currently in negotiations with Italy, but they seem to be stand firm on their decision. These companies are now looking at drilling wells outside the boundaries on their initially targeted prospects.

These permits are gone and Italy will stand firm. It not law yet, but the ruling was effective immediately. I have looked at ADX Sambuca and it lies about 30-50 kilometres outside the MPA covering Pantalleria, so its safe. KEY not safe at all.
