Great Southern land for sale 17 Jun, 2010 04:00 AM Plantation forestry manager, Gunns Limited is unlikely to tender to buy land being sold for Great Southern Limited by receivers McGrath Nicol.
Gunns took over as the responsible entity managing about 14,000 ha of bluegum plantations on the island, planted by Great Southern before 2007.
As part of the receivership of Great Southern, about 19,000ha of land on Kangaroo Island, with 11,000ha under bluegums - is now for sale with initial bids due in late July and is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2010.
The Kangaroo Island land is part of a holding of 269,000ha for sale nationally, primarily around Albany and Bunbury in WA and the Green Triangle in south-eastern Australia.
Receivers will consider all options for the realisation of the Great Southern estate, including a sale of land only or land and trees.
If offers are made to buy the trees with the land, Gunns would have to negotiate with the individual investors in its plantations to sell their shares in the managed investment schemes.
Individual groups of buyers, such as farmers, could bid for the land.
A spokeswoman said those interested should contact financial advisors to the sale Gresham Advisory Partners Limited.
A spokesman for Gunns said it was unlikely the company would buy any of the land on offer.
