A BOARDROOM coup at CMA Recycling could change the businesss legal scrap with Maroondah Council.

The recycler and council were set down for a 10-day hearing at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal starting on May 24 to settle operating hours for CMAs Heatherdale Rd site .

But the case was adjourned for two days after the recycler changed chairman, managing director and metals chief operating officer.

CMA then told Maroondah Council on May 26 it would no longer seek a 24-hour permit, and instead a 7am-7pm permit for metal operations, with later hours for maintenance works.

Council had limited CMAs operation to 7am-6pm weekdays and 8am-1pm Saturdays. A council spokeswoman said talks continued with the recycler but would not confirm a new application had been lodged.

Heatherdale Community Action Group spokesman Garry Neeman said residents wanted the council to stay firm. Any expansion of operating levels is unacceptable to residents, Mr Neeman said.

He said residents doubted the board and management changes would alter the way the site operated. The situation has been so long and protracted that residents have little faith in CMA at all, Mr Neeman said.

The hearing was scheduled to continue this week.
