Coalworks coal to gas possible: report June 3, 2010 - 6:19PM

Coalworks Ltd has received a report showing that one of its projects in NSW can facilitate the conversion of coal to gas.

Coalworks, a coal explorer and miner, said in a statement that it had received a report from the Gas Technology Institute in Chicago, United States, as part of a feasibility study into the Oaklands coal project.

The feasibility study was carried out with strategic alliance partner, US engineering firm Energy Systems Inc.

The tests confirmed that the Oaklands project was amenable to gasification, the first step in the coal to liquids-petrol process.

Oaklands is near Albury and Wagga Wagga in southern NSW, and the liquids could be transported by rail for distribution to those regional markets, it said.
