trendtrading long term depends on your definition of long term . You would seem to be using one based on flucuations in the SP this would be playing into the algos hands . If however you see long term as being the time it takes for a share price to eliminate the difference between what it is trading at on a specific date and what it trades at when value that the company is working on producing but is not yet shown in the SP is reflected in the SP the period of time becomes months if not years .
It has now been sometime since the rapid increase in bot trading and although some individuals seem to be still able to pick up a succesfull trade here and there I have not seen anyone come up with a tactic that allows continuous success in dealing with algos other than going from trading to investing .I am of course aware of efforts to have legislation changed and/or enforced to stop or modify the behaviour but i am a bit cynicall about the chances of it occuring as it is a bit like leaking information to the news media in that you never know how they will handle it
