Yep I think he's over emphasised the lack of effectiveness. If he had said "are not as effective as treating active disease" he would have been closer to the truth.

Whilst it is still many years away from becoming a new antibiotic, it does show the advantage CST's QFT has in that market. They will first need to find who has got latent TB (they wont just treat everyone) and QFT is very efficient and cost effective in finding latent TB (judging from all the latest scientific papers on QFT).

The ancient TST test certainly isn't anywhere near as efficient and overall more expensive when you look at those results so my money is on QFT leading the fight to eradicate TB.
