I read this article to and was wondering the same things. I think it could be a real possibility as Friedland has probably achieved a 500%+ return on his investment in IVA. I guess it will come down to a) how much he needs the cash and b) how much upside he thinks is left in IVA.
IVA will need to raise or borrow at least a few hundred Mill to get things going at Merlin and it doesnt sound like Ivanhoe Canada will be kicking the tin. Either way, i suspect the funding issue will need to be addressed in the first half of the year.
Maybe another float on the ASX or sale to another miner. OZ Minerals or Xstrata may be interested.
