Basicly the way i see it is that there is a lot of pressure and heat where they are and it was a problem for them early on in late 70's early 80's hence from their 1st announcement on the atocha
The target sand was drilled with 12.2 pounds per gallon (ppg) drilling mud while the pressure equates to a 10.5 environment. Technical evaluation has indicated that the formation was drilled 1,450 psi overbalanced which would have tended to force drilling fluids into porous and permeable intervals of the formation. Even in an overbalanced environment, the mudlog indicates a continuous gas the intersection.
I have never been involved in gas oil industry so trying to make sence of it as well
