Cliffs wins Federal nod for Mt Jackson The West Australian October 5, 2009, 9:23 am
New York-listed miner Cliffs Natural Resources says it has secured environmental approval from the Federal Government for its Mt Jackson J1 iron ore deposit near Southern Cross.
The company said the deposit represented a significant portion of ore reserves fir its Asia Pacific iron ore business.
Under the terms of the approval, Cliffs has agreed to implement mine management actions to ensure the threatened Maleefowl and its habitat are protected.
The company is still awaiting environmental approval from the State Government, which it expected in the first quarter of next year.
Cliffs expects to commence work on the site in the middle of next year.
Cliffs Natural Resources, formerly Cleveland-Cliffs, took over Portman Mining last year and holds an 18.4 per cent stake in Golden West Resources.
Cliffs is also listed on London's Alternative Investments Market.
