The Premier Colin Barnett will travel to China in the wake of Rio's decision to scrap Chinalco investment plan. Analysts are supporting the Premier Colin Barnett's plans to fly to China to try to secure future investment in Western Australia.
On Friday, BHP and Rio Tinto announced they would be merging their Pilbara iron ore assets, scrapping plans for a $24 billion deal between Rio and the Chinese owned Chinalco.
The Premier Colin Barnett will fly to China next month to try to ease the tension caused by the merger.
Mining analyst Peter Strachan says it is an important trip because WA's economy is reliant on exports to China.
"So I think as the Premier of the state he would be wanting to go in there and to make sure that the powers that be in Beijing are reassured that in fact Chinese capital and Chinese partnership in Australian business is still very much wanted," he said.
